    New Puppy Needs

When adopting a puppy, there are certain things every owner should have on hand from day one. After you’ve had your new pet for a few days, you’ll have a better idea of what types of things you absolutely need and what types of things you don’t, but until then, the following list will serve as a good rule of paw…er, thumb.

    Needed Supplies

    • Water Bowl
    • Food Bowl
    • Leash
    • Collar
    • Dog Food
    • Shelter (depending on climate and where dog will spend the majority of their time)

In addition, don’t forget to take your puppy to the vet ASAP for advice on recommended shots as well as some type of flea, tick and parasite control.

Remember, dogs long for structure and discipline and like nothing more than to know who runs the show and what are the rules. After all, they’ve been bred to follow orders.

That’s why it’s important to keep in mind that if your puppy will be left alone for long periods of time on a regular basis, you need to walk him before you leave and after you get home. If you fail to do so before departing, they will not be in their natural rest mode, and will be more prone to destructive behavior, such as chewing.

So give your puppy plenty of exercise and spend as much time as possible with him. And above all, remember to choose a breed that matches your demeanor, so that you and your puppy prove to be a good fit.
